Dr. Katherine Wawronowicz-Anderson

Dr. Anderson obtained her DVM from St. George’s University in 2005. She has been working as a general practitioner at Norwood Park Animal Hospital since graduation. In 2016, Dr. Anderson purchased the hospital from Dr. Hammer and changed the name of the practice to Companion Animal Hospital of Norridge.

Dr. Anderson has a special interest in Chinese medicine and obtained her acupuncture certification from the Chi Institute in 2009. She is passionate about providing high-quality medicine to her patients and being able to treat them using a combination of Eastern and Western medicine. On her days off, Dr. Anderson keeps busy with her husband Marty and their two children.

What made you decide to become a veterinarian?

I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian from the time I was very young.

What is your most memorable moment as a vet?

Helping a paralyzed dog walk again using acupuncture.

Why did you decide to join the Companion Animal Hospital team?

I worked at Norwood Park Animal Hospital for 10 years, and became a partner when it was purchased by Companion Animal Hospital.

What is the best thing about being a vet?

It’s very rewarding to help sick animals. I also really enjoy getting to know my clients and seeing their children grow up.

What is the most common problem you’ve encountered in pets you treat?

Allergies.

What was the most rewarding case you have had as a veterinarian?

Titan, a Doberman Pinscher, was probably my most rewarding case. He came in unable to walk and had terrible ulcerations on his legs due to diabetes mellitus. Integrating both Eastern and Western medicine, I was able to get his diabetes under control, then his sores healed and he was able to walk again. He has since passed away but he will always have a special place in my heart.

Do you have any special interests in veterinary medicine?

Chinese medicine including acupuncture and herbal medicine.

What is the most unusual pet you have helped treat?

I volunteered at the Wildlife Clinic in vet school and helped treat raptors, like Great Horned Owls.

What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?

Hiking, camping, yoga or just laying on a beach.

Italy, Switzerland, any warm place with a beach.
